r, pianistDr. William Car, Malvern alumnus, Steinway Artist and professor of music and coordinator of applied music at Immaculata University, will perform with his student and current Malvern freshman, Alex Tran, tomorrow, Friday, February 5 at 9:45 a.m. in Malvern Prep’s state-of-the-art Duffy Arts Center.
This special concert for the Malvern student body marks the first time a Malvern alumnus and current student will be performing on its new Steinway piano in the Duffy Center.
Tran, a Norristown resident, currently studies classical piano under Dr. Carr and has performed throughout the Philadelphia region,
including at the annual Allen Organ Christmas Charity Concert in Macungie and several shows at Immaculata University.
Dr. Carr graduated from Malvern Prep in 1968 and studied piano performance at the Juilliard School in New York. Dr. Carr earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from Catholic University of America. Dr. Carr has also earned two post-doctorial certificates; one from the Munich Conservatory in Chamber Music and one from the Liszt Conservatory. Dr. Carr has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe. His performance credits include a 1988 solo recital at Carnegie Hall, solo performances in 2002 and 2005 at Carnegie Hall and solo performances in 2003 and 2004 at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. In February 2008, he performed Rhapsody in Blue on the main stage of the Academy of Music in Philadelphia.
The performance will include pieces by George Gershwin, Franz Liszt, Franz Schubert, Alexander Scriabin, Moritz Moszkowski, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Frederic Chopin.
